Greyhound Derby to be shown in its entirety on RPGTV
The Star Sports, TRC Events & Leisure English Derby will be shown in its entirety on Racing Post Greyhound TV and SIS, with the first round confirmed as split over three consecutive nights beginning on Thursday, June 3. The final is scheduled for Saturday, July 10.
Towcester promoter Kevin Boothby welcomed the news, saying: “I’m really pleased we are going to be able to showcase the Derby with coverage of all rounds on both SIS and RPGTV. But, more than that, I want us to be able to greet as many people as possible at Towcester to enjoy all the rounds at the track.
“It has been a tough last 13 months for everybody, including owners and greyhound racing enthusiasts who have been starved of watching the racing live.
“We’re excited to get crowds back and as many as possible following the government guidelines. It would be nice to think that the lifting of all restrictions will be able to happen on June 21.”
Towcester consultant Nathan Corden added: “Judging by the number of calls and messages I’ve had there will once again be a large raiding party from over the Irish Sea. We are working hard behind the scenes to produce a real festival of racing.”
Paul Witten, SIS commercial director, said: “We’re very pleased to be partnering Kevin Boothby and Towcester for this year’s Greyhound Derby, the most prestigious event of the greyhound racing calendar.
“We will be providing our operator partners with all the action from the rounds leading up to the final in July.
“We wish Kevin and all of his team the best as the Derby makes it return to Towcester for what’s set to be another unmissable event.”
RPGTV executive producer Clive Lawrence said: “Our coverage from Towcester will be focused on bringing the views and reaction from connections as they enjoy the rollercoaster ride that our sport’s greatest race can provide.
“RPGTV viewers will not miss a second of the action on greyhound racing’s only dedicated TV channel on our free-to-view Sky, Freesat and internet platforms.”
