Talking SBC North America with Gethin Evans
Gethin Evans, Senior Vice President, Americas (B2C) at Spotlight Sports Group provides his thoughts on what to expect from Spotlight Sports Group and others at this year’s SBC Summit North America conference.
As SBC Summit North America is nearly upon us, what are you most looking forward to for this year’s conference?
I am looking forward to two things in particular at this year’s conference.
First, discussing the forthcoming product features on Pickswise and how that will drive both volume and value of first-time depositors (FTDs) for our new and existing partners. We’ve been looking at the NFL season and off-season data and are excited about the value we are about to add.
Second, our recent agreement with The Arena Group means we are bringing the entire Fan Nation site network to market. This represents millions of active users, all highly engaged sports fans that are targetable at the team level. We and our partners are tremendously excited about the opportunity.
We have a packed schedule of work meetings but we will also spend some time socially with our key partners throughout the week.
As Spotlight Sports Group’s B2C division, led by Pickswise, continues to grow in North America, what do you think has been the key driving force behind this success?
We made a very conscious decision to build Pickswise on the strongest possible SEO foundation, and we are seeing the benefits of that with consistent top keyword positions for some of the most valuable search terms out there. That has helped us grow the biggest audience amongst the post-PASPA affiliates.
The next step in our growth plan is the addition of distinct product features in the coming weeks, that will help us take more market share from our pre-PASPA legacy competitors.
We are nearing the mid-point of 2023, what do you predict will be a key area of focus for the sports betting industry in the US for the second half of the year as state openings slow down?
Less reliance on the NFL season for FTDs, for the market as a whole. For affiliates, that really means finding utility for sports bettors year-round. We are very focused on that and recognise the opportunity, as do our partners who we work closest with.
For the market in general, there are incredibly strong headwinds forthcoming unless everyone commits to responsible gambling best practices across the board.
